The Vietnam Intellectual Property Research Institute (VIPRI), traditionally recognized for its role in IP examination, has been merged with the National Institute of Patent and Technology Exploitation (NIPTEX) to form the National Intellectual Property Institute.

While the new entity retains the VIPRI name, its scope of work has been significantly broadened. The focus now extends beyond rights protection to include the commercial exploitation of IP assets, the development of national IP strategies, and stronger support for innovation and technology transfer. This restructuring reflects the State’s growing emphasis on intellectual property as a key pillar for economic and technological advancement.

For enterprises and enforcement bodies, the change is expected to enhance capacity in tackling infringement and provide new opportunities to maximize the commercial value of their intellectual property in Vietnam.

Effective from May 9, 2025, the establishment of the new VIPRI marks a decisive step toward modernizing the country’s IP framework and aligning with international best practices.
