Adopted by the Legislative Chamber on March 26, 2024, and approved by the Uzbek Senate on May 18, 2024, Uzbekistan has ratified the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the international registration of industrial designs, with the law signed by the President on June 5th, 2024.

The Hague Agreement enables applications for industrial design protection to be submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), either directly or through a designated national office.

Currently, the agreement includes 77 participating countries, such as the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, EU countries, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan's accession includes specific declarations tailored to its legal framework.

Under the new regulations, the submission period for international applications filed through Uzbekistan's Ministry of Justice Intellectual Property Department has been extended to six months, compared to the previous one-month period, to accommodate necessary safety compliance checks.

Upon the Ministry of Justice issuing a protection notice to WIPO's International Bureau, international registration of an industrial design in Uzbekistan takes effect.
