To enhance intellectual property protection and commercialization capabilities nationwide, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has launched the Regional Development Plan on Intellectual Property (RDPIP). This three-year program aims to address the specific IP needs of each region, promoting innovation and economic growth in the Philippines. Key actions include performing needs assessments, setting up consultations, and organizing regional events to improve IP literacy and foster an innovative culture.

On September 26, 2024, at the IP Convention in Iloilo, IPOPHL Director-General Rowel S. Barba emphasized the goal of the plan to harmonize IP efforts while acknowledging regional differences. The RDPIP launch coincided with the Western Visayas Innovative Startup Fest 2024, held from September 23 to 27, which focused on fostering a thriving startup ecosystem. The program’s lead implementer, IPOPHL’s Documentation, Information and Technology Transfer Bureau (DITTB), encouraged partners to actively support the RDIPIP initiative to promote innovation across regions.
