On November 27, 2024, the S&O IP China team conducted two intellectual property rights (IPR) trainings with Haicang Customs and Dongdu Customs in Xiamen, Fujian Province. These sessions aimed to strengthen the enforcement capabilities of frontline customs officials and foster closer collaboration in combating counterfeit goods.

The training at Haicang Customs was attended by 12 frontline officials from the inspection division. During the session, the S&O IP China team introduced the brand’s history, development, and key product features, providing a detailed comparison between genuine and counterfeit goods to enhance officials' ability to identify counterfeits. Key seizure cases and export trends for counterfeit goods were also shared to provide practical insights.

A follow-up discussion with Haicang Customs’ leadership revealed emerging trends in counterfeit goods exports, further highlighting the importance of targeted inspections. The training not only improved officials' knowledge of the brand and its IP rights but also encouraged active discussions on counterfeiting patterns, enabling customs to refine their enforcement strategies.

At Dongdu Customs, 20 frontline officials participated in an interactive offline training session. Before the session, Dongdu Customs officials briefed the S&O IP China team on their jurisdiction and the unique characteristics of freight transportation in their area. The head of the Inspection Department emphasized the challenges posed by limited brand knowledge in frontline inspections.

The training included a comprehensive introduction to the brand’s history, product features, and past infringement cases. Hands-on practice with genuine and counterfeit products was provided to deepen officials’ understanding of distinguishing characteristics.

Both Customs emphasized the critical role of collaboration with rights holders and expressed their commitment to strengthening partnerships to enhance IP enforcement efforts.
