China is rapidly asserting its competitiveness in emerging industries, especially in green, low-carbon technologies such as electric vehicles (EVs), lithium batteries, and solar cells. This growth is fueled by increased production, supported by a substantial base of patented technology.

In the EV sector, the top ten Chinese new energy vehicle companies have collectively obtained over 100,000 effective global patents, indicating a trend of rapid annual expansion. This accumulation of patents reflects China's dedication to sustainable transportation and underscores a strategic focus on intellectual property rights as a vital aspect of technological leadership.

By May 2023, the global patent applications for key solid-state battery technologies totaled 20,798, with China accounting for 7,649 applications, or 36.7% of the total. Over the past five years, China's annual growth rate in global patent applications for solid-state batteries has averaged 20.8%, the fastest worldwide.

In solar cell technology, China leads with 126,400 global patent applications, ranking first. This dominance in solar technology patents not only strengthens China's position in the global renewable energy market but also signals its growing influence in setting industry standards and driving future developments.

The rise in patent applications in green technology sectors reflects China's strategic approach to intellectual property rights. By securing and leveraging these rights, China is shaping global green industries while fostering competitive advantage and sustainable economic growth.
