Recently, the delegation of Kazakhstan participated in the First Forum on Intellectual Property Cooperation between Central Asia and China, which was held in Urumqi from 24 to 26 July 2023. The Forum was organised based on the outcomes of the Central Asia-China Summit held in May 2023 and aimed at strengthening intellectual property ties within the framework of the implementation of the "One Belt, One Road" project.
The meeting was organised by the National Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the XUAR People's Government, with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), and laid the groundwork for greater cooperation and innovation in the region. The Forum was attended by senior officials from the intellectual property offices and departments of the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as China.
The focus was on the acceptance of joint application (statement) on intellectual property, which main principles were mutual respect, solidarity and mutual benefit. The aim of the statement is to enhance the innovation potential of the regions and stimulate the vitality of markets. In addition, within the framework of the statement, the participants discussed the prospects for closer cooperation between Central Asia and China, as well as helding more regular meetings of representatives of intellectual property offices. This dialogue platform aims to strengthen mutual trust and respect between Central Asian countries and China, as well as to promote international cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
