At the 65th General Assembly of the WIPO Member States, held in Geneva from July 9 to 17, 2024, Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the Georgian National Intellectual Property Centre (Sakpatenti), and Antonio Campinos, President of the European Patent Office, signed a two-year joint work plan aimed at enhancing intellectual property protection in Georgia.
The agreement focuses on several key areas: training patent attorneys, developing Sakpatenti electronic proceedings, improving existing services, and supporting the introduction of new services in Georgia. It also includes plans for joint activities to enhance the quality of patent examiners.
Sakpatenti views the adoption of this joint work plan as a significant step towards European integration, which is expected to positively influence Georgia's accession to the European Patent Convention and its full membership in the European Patent Organisation.
The General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) convenes annually in Geneva. During this meeting, delegates reviewed the previous year's activities, addressed current challenges and tasks, and deliberated on key directions and priorities shaping the IP policies of WIPO Member States.
