Effective August 15, 2025, the Thai Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has begun issuing electronic certificates (e-certificates) for Madrid Protocol trademark registrations (CM1–CM3), aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility in service delivery.

Each e-certificate will feature a QR code, enabling users to verify authenticity, access trademark details, and download the certificate in PDF format. Importantly, the e-certificate will hold the same legal validity as a physical certificate issued by the DIP.

The DIP will also transmit the e-certificate to WIPO, together with the Statement of Total Grant of Protection (Model Form 4) or the Statement of Total or Partial Grant of Protection (Model Form 5), as applicable.

It should be noted that the introduction of e-certificates is designed to enhance convenience; applicants will still have the option to obtain a traditional paper certificate if preferred.
