At the fifth annual review of the e-commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) reported significant progress in the fight against counterfeit and infringing goods online. Leading e-commerce platforms shared updates on their proactive efforts to detect and remove unauthorized product listings.
The review brought together representatives from e-commerce companies, brand owners, industry associations, and international business chambers, all of whom outlined the results of their individual anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting initiatives.
Brand owners noted that their enhanced enforcement efforts stem from a trusted and collaborative relationship with IPOPHL. IPOPHL officials also highlighted that continuous dialogue, joint training, and technical discussions have helped both platforms and rights holders better align their strategies. These efforts have led to more efficient takedown procedures and stronger enforcement measures.
The e-commerce MOU, launched in 2021, is a voluntary agreement designed to improve IP protection online through cooperative efforts between major platforms, rights holders, trade groups, and foreign business organizations. As of now, it has 107 signatories, all committed to upholding intellectual property rights in the digital marketplace.
The latest review further underscored the value of public-private collaboration in combating online fraud and strengthening IP enforcement in the evolving e-commerce landscape.
