Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber has approved the second reading of a draft law that seeks to simplify intellectual property (IP) registration procedures as part of broader efforts to raise awareness and reduce bureaucratic obstacles. One of the main changes in the draft law is the removal of the requirement to provide proof of state fee payment when registering industrial property. Additionally, applications for software and databases will now be reviewed within 10 days to confirm their completeness. The law also introduces electronic protection documents, which will include QR codes for easier verification and improved transparency.

Furthermore, the bill proposes reducing the review time for geographical indications from seven months to just one month. It also allows for a six-month extension for unpaid registration fees, with a 50% surcharge. This legislation, developed with input from lawmakers and parliamentary groups, aims to enhance legal protection for creators, promote innovation, and contribute to the country’s economic development.
