UZBEKISTAN CONFERENCE ADDRESSING COUNTERFEIT MEDICAL PRODUCTS IN CENTRAL ASIA

From June 19-21, 2024, a regional conference was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, addressing the issue of counterfeit medical products in Central Asia. The event was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Asia, with support from the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The conference brought together high-level representatives, including Ms. Ashita Mittal, the regional representative of UNODC in Central Asia; Nathaniel Rettenmeyer, the Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section (INL) at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent; Ashina Khalakdina, the WHO representative in Uzbekistan; and Ismatjon Azizov, the Chair of the Committee on Drugs Control at the state institution "Pharmaceutical Product Security Center."
During the conference, prospective plans were discussed to ensure the safe use of strictly controlled drugs, aiming to prevent counterfeiting and other infringements in the region.
This event marked a crucial step towards more effective efforts in combating counterfeiting in the medical sector of Central Asia.
