On August 14, 2024, S&O IP Cambodia was honored to be invited by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) to participate in a training session on “Plant Variety Protection in Cambodia” held at MISTI headquarters. Mr. Phe Chantravuth, Director of the Department of Industrial Property, MISTI teams, and representatives from the private sector attended the event.
The training emphasized the importance of developing new plant varieties to benefit society and promote sustainable seed development. Key objectives included providing incentives for innovation, enhancing both domestic and international trade, and protecting plant breeders' rights by combating illegal practices. The event also introduced the procedures for registering plant varieties in Cambodia, anticipating the country's upcoming membership in the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), which will streamline related processes.
MISTI has announced that it is now accepting applications for plant variety registration.
