S&O CAMBODIA: “IP AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS: BUILDING OUR COMMON FUTURE WITH INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY”

S&O CAMBODIA: On April 30, 2024, the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh hosted the World Intellectual Property Day 2024 event, organized by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), and Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, under the theme “IP and Sustainable Development Goals: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.” The event was co-sponsored by WIPO, Regional Trade for Development (RT4D), Australian Aid, and private sectors.

Our colleagues from the Cambodia office were privileged to attend.

Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chairperson of the National Committee for Intellectual Property (NCIP), emphasized the significance of intellectual property in fostering trade in goods and services, nurturing new businesses, including micro, small, and medium enterprises, and attracting foreign direct investment by facilitating value creation, commercialization, financing, promotion, and research and development through technology transfer.

Moreover, MOC and MISTI presided over the inauguration ceremony to introduce several IP projects, including:

1. Project for “Inclusive Growth: Empowering Cambodian Entrepreneurs with Disability through IP Education and Brand Development for Trade” under RT4D Project;
2. Project for Skills-Based Learning and Mentoring for Design School under WIPO-JPO Project;
3. IP Web Application;
4. IP Distance Learning Moodle System;
5. Launch of Intellectual Property Analysis Program.
