ROSPATENT WILL START ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL REGISTRATION OF REGIONAL BRANDS

The Russian Federation has joined the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications.
Applicants now have a new legal instrument that simplifies the procedure for registering AOs and GIs in more than 70 foreign countries. To register, it will be sufficient to submit an application and indicate the necessary contracting parties.
Joining the Lisbon System opens new opportunities for economic development of regions and support the local producers, increases the level of protection of regional brands. The system guarantees reliable protection of regional brands in the territories of the Contracting Parties, which, of course, has become one of the most important factors in the accession of the Russian Federation to this system.
Rospatent will start accepting applications for international registration of regional brands under the Lisbon system three months after the transfer of the certificate of accession, i.e. from 11 August 2023.
