THAI CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT LEADS DESTRUCTION CEREMONY OF OVER 1 MILLION COUNTERFEIT GOODS, WITH S&O IP'S PARTICIPATION

The Thai Customs Department, in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property and other representatives, organized the Destruction Ceremony of infringing goods on July 17, 2024. At this event, 1,093,000 counterfeit items infringing on various brand names were destroyed.
S&O IP participated in the destruction process, underscoring our commitment to preventing further violation of intellectual property rights.
Mr. Chulphan Amornvivat, the Deputy Minister of Finance, presided over the opening ceremony. He emphasized the Thai government's dedication, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Srettha Thavisin and Minister of Finance Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, to combat intellectual property rights infringements. This policy aims to protect the Thai market and improve the quality of life for Thai citizens. The counterfeit items included luxury bags, shoes, clothing, accessories, and environmentally harmful products such as fluorocarbon (FCs) refrigerants, and electronic cigarettes, with a total value exceeding 39 million THB (approx. EURO 1,000,000).
Mr. Thirat Attanawanich, Director General of the Customs Department, instructed Customs officials to be vigilant in preventing and suppressing illegal importation. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with other authorities to ensure maximum efficiency and a unified approach.
This event marks a significant step in addressing infringement issues and ensuring these products will not return to the market, demonstrating active cooperation between law enforcement, customs, and representatives in Thailand.
