On September 26, 2024, Geneva hosted the 17th Annual Global Innovation Index ceremony, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This year, Kazakhstan rose from 81st to 78th place globally, becoming one of the top three countries in Central Asia and South Asia.
The Global Innovation Index (GII) seeks to deliver an innovation ranking and comprehensive analysis of approximately 130 economies, acknowledging that innovation is crucial for economic development. Since 2007, the GII has become a prominent reference for innovation and serves as a "tool for action" for countries that integrate it into their innovation strategies.
Kazakhstan’s performance improved in government efficiency, rule of law, education, market development, business environment, and foreign investment.
Kazakhstan was also ranked in the TOP-30 globally for several categories: «Online government» - 8th place, «Utility models by origin/billion dollars. GDP by PPP» - 10th place, «Electronic participation» - 15th place, «Labor productivity growth, %» - 30th place.
On October 4, 2024, Kazakhstan will host the first regional Global Innovation Index ceremony for Central Asian and South Asian Countries, with support from WIPO. The event will gather Kazakhstan Ministry of Justice and National IP office officials, and representatives from international and non-governmental organizations.
The rise in Kazakhstan's Global Innovation Index ranking directly results from targeted actions such as strengthening the rule of law, simplifying patent procedures, and ongoing government reforms. The upcoming regional ceremony for the 2024 Global Innovation Index further highlights Kazakhstan’s growing role in promoting innovation and enhancing its international reputation.
