The Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam) has recently taken a significant step to enhance its expertise in biotechnology patent examination through a collaborative training program with the Japan Patent Office (JPO).

Over the course of five days, 21 patent examiners from IP Vietnam participated in this specialized training, designed to bolster their skills in evaluating complex biotechnology patent applications. The program was led by an experienced International Training Instructor from the JPO’s Global Patent Academy (GPA), offering tailored insights into the latest examination practices.

Participants gained deeper insights into essential practices, such as novelty and inventive step determination, based on the JPO’s established criteria. Real-world biotechnology case studies added practical depth to the learning experience, empowering attendees to apply these principles effectively in their roles.

This initiative highlights IP Vietnam's dedication to strengthening its intellectual property framework, crucial for fostering innovation and supporting the nation’s economic growth. The program also reflects the deepening partnership between Vietnam and Japan in building capacity for patent examination and aligning with international standards.
