Activities of the Eurasian Patent Organization

The Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) is an international organization established in 1995 in accordance with the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) for the issuance of Eurasian patents.
The Eurasian Patent Convention’s Member States - Turkmenistan, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Tajikistan, Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Armenia.
The bodies of the EAPO are the Administrative Council and the Eurasian Patent Office.
The competence of the Eurasian Patent Office includes:
1. performing all administrative functions of the EAPO;
2. implementation of patent examination of Eurasian applications for the issuance of Eurasian patents for inventions and industrial designs;
3. issuance of Eurasian patents for inventions and industrial designs that are valid throughout the territory of the EAPO member states;
4. consideration of an objection to the issuance of a Eurasian patent under the procedure of administrative cancellation of a Eurasian patent; and
5. decision-making and publication of information related to the filing and consideration of the objection.
The competence of the Administrative Council includes:
1. appointment of the President of the Eurasian Patent Office for a renewable six-year term;
2. issuance a recommendation to the President of the Eurasian Patent Office regarding the appointment of Vice-Presidents;
3. approval of the EAPO headquarters agreement; and
4. approval of agreements concluded by EAPO with states and international organizations, etc.
The Administrative Council convenes meetings, which are divided into regular and extraordinary. A regular meeting is convened in each calendar year. Thus, at the forty-second meeting of the Administrative Council of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), which took place in May 2023, the plenipotentiaries considered issues on the agenda of the meeting on the adoption of the annual report of the EAPO for 2022, on amendments to the Regulations on Working Conditions of employees of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), on the approval of the Procedure for electronic exchange of documents in as part of the general office work between the EAPO and the national patent offices of the member States of the Eurasian Patent Convention, and also was also approved a strategically important document - The development program of the Eurasian Patent Organization for 2023-2028.
