The 78th United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared the Spring Festival, also known as Lunar New Year, an official UN holiday, highlighting its global significance. The attention has shifted to the role of intellectual property rights in safeguarding Chinese culture during the festivities.

China's 2024 Spring Festival set a box office record of 8.016 billion yuan, showcasing the film industry's key role in celebrations and its increasing global influence. Chinese authorities' efforts to protect creative industries through robust IP rights enforcement have contributed to this success.

The National Copyright Administration of China, with other government departments, launched initiatives to safeguard cinema movie copyrights, including a pre-warning list for key works in 2024, notably Spring Festival films. These measures are essential for the healthy growth of China's film sector.

The UN's recognition of the Spring Festival as a holiday has opened doors for Chinese cultural exports, particularly in intangible cultural heritage (ICH). Performances featuring ICH elements, such as the traditional Luantan show in Hebei and Sichuan Opera in Houston, Texas, have enthralled audiences worldwide.

These developments highlight the vital role of IP rights in preserving and promoting traditional arts, fostering cultural exchange, and encouraging innovation.
