Singapore's courts are testing generative artificial intelligence (AI) to assist litigants, reports local portal CNA.
AI, capable of answering questions based on pre-loaded data, is designed to help clients bring claims or defend their interests. Generative AI is initially being tested in small claims court, which hears about 10,000 cases a year. In the future, it will be rolled out to other authorities, including those involved in divorce and civil proceedings.
Since such a court does not have lawyers, it was considered a suitable “testing ground”, the portal quotes Judge Aedit Abdullah as saying at a press conference on September 26.
In August, Singapore's courts signed a memorandum of understanding with US startup Harvey AI to use its artificial intelligence technology for two years. The agreement was reached following Supreme Court Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon's visit to New York, during which he met with the founder and CEO of Harvey AI, whose product is based on Open.AI's GPT model.
