The Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) recently met with the Community Council of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property to discuss the future of intellectual property (IP) protection in the Eurasian region. A key focus of the meeting was developing a unified registration system for both Eurasian trademarks and utility models.
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev emphasized the importance of the strong network of trade, scientific, educational, and cultural connections across the Eurasian region, which play a significant role in the growth of the intellectual property sector. He highlighted the success of the Eurasian patent system, which saw a 20% increase in applications in 2023. Grigory Ivliev noted that the unified patent system allows businesses to expand their innovative technologies across neighboring markets, a crucial advantage as regional trade continues to grow, driven by both historical ties and evolving global dynamics.
The President of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) has called for the creation of unified systems for trademark and utility model registration. This initiative aims to better meet the needs of the business community and enhance the region's economic strength and competitiveness. Establishing a single registration system would streamline processes, reduce administrative barriers, and provide businesses with easier access to brand and innovation protection across member states.
