China and France Deepen Cooperation in Intellectual Property Rights

The 35th China-France Mixed Committee Meeting on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) recently convened in Beijing, bringing together Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and Pascal Faure, Director General of France's National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The meeting focused on key topics such as advancements in IPR frameworks, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the integration of artificial intelligence with intellectual property.
CNIPA Commissioner highlighted the significance of 2024 as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. He emphasized the active collaboration between the two nations in implementing agreements reached by their heads of state. He noted progress in areas like the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) and the protection of geographical indications, which have yielded substantial results. Looking ahead, Shen Changyu expressed optimism about further strengthening cooperation, particularly in the commercialization of IPRs and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance IP services.
Pascal Faure commended China’s advancements in IP protection, noting that its robust IP ecosystem has reinforced the confidence of French enterprises in investing in the Chinese market. He called for expanding collaborative efforts to deliver mutual benefits and drive sustainable economic growth for both countries.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of China and France to fostering innovation, enhancing global IP governance, and supporting businesses on both sides through strengthened cooperation.
