On May 5, 2025, our colleagues from S&O IP Cambodia were pleased to attend a key event held at Angkor University under the theme “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP.” The event gathered senior officials, diplomats, and international organizations to highlight the importance of intellectual property in supporting Cambodia’s creative and cultural sectors.
A major announcement was the launch of Cambodia’s 6th Geographical Indication, “Prahok Siem Reap,” along with three new collective marks: Kandal Silver-Copper Engraving, Cambodia Tobacco, and Cambodia Bird’s Nest. These designations aim to protect and promote Cambodia’s unique local products.
The program also featured the presentation of national IP initiatives, including the Strategic Roadmap for Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge, and the launch of Phase 2 of the Digital IP Web Application, supported by WIPO and the EU, with new QR code and trademark search features.
The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, an exhibition, and a cultural gala dinner featuring traditional music and dance performances from Cambodia and ASEAN member countries, celebrating the role of IP in cultural heritage and regional cooperation.
We thank the organizers for an excellent program and look forward to continuing our support for IP development in the region.
