China Advances in Geographical Indication Protection

China has made notable progress in protecting geographical indications (GIs), with 2,523 GI products approved and 7,385 GI trademarks registered by August 2024, according to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). Since 2020, the annual output value of GIs has steadily increased, exceeding 961 billion yuan in 2023.
During the 13th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference, CNIPA Deputy Commissioner Hu Wenhui emphasized that China's GI products and trademarks rank among the top globally in both quality and quantity. He also stressed the importance of international cooperation in furthering these advancements and supporting high-quality economic development.
