CAMBODIA AND WIPO: COLLABORATION ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

In May 2024, Cham Nimul, Cambodia's Minister of Commerce, met with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Geneva, Switzerland. Minister Cham Nimul expressed gratitude to WIPO for its continuous support since Cambodia's accession in 1995 and emphasized the pivotal role of intellectual property in enhancing trade, fostering startups, attracting foreign investments, and promoting innovation.

Director General Tang commended Cambodia for strengthening intellectual property rights and its advancements in IP commercialization. He proposed that Cambodia collaborate with WIPO's special projects team to implement IP-related initiatives over the next 8-12 months, aiming to improve trade promotion through enhanced intellectual property management.

Minister Cham Nimul sought WIPO's assistance in revising trademark laws, implementing effective IP policies, and promoting IP awareness among various associations and students.
