On August 26, 2022, the Thai Department of Intellectual Property in cooperation with the Internal Security Operations Command, Royal Thai Police, Thai Customs Department, and the Department of Special Investigation, held the Annual Destruction Ceremony of intellectual property rights (IPR) infringing Goods at the 7th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment at Don Mueang, Bangkok. The objective of the event was to ensure infringing goods do not re-enter commercial channels where they could be a threat to the health and safety of Thailand’s consumers.

Mr. Sinit Lertkrai, Deputy Minister of Commerce, made the opening the remarks at the ceremony and stressed the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in Thailand. The ceremony also demonstrated how the pirated and counterfeit items will be destroyed, with some items being incinerated or destroyed by an industrial crusher.

At this year’s ceremony, S&O IP participants watched the destruction of 404,985 items of infringing goods worth more than 173 million baht. The goods destroyed included: clothing, bags, belts, shoes, watches, mobile phones, CDs/DVDs, sunglasses, cosmetics, auto parts and other items.

On behalf of our clients, S&O IP Thailand, in conjunction with Neil Narriman, General Counsel of Intellectual Property of PUMA, attended the event.

Lastly, S&O IP Thailand would like to express our appreciation to all the agencies involved in the destruction ceremony, and the firm will continue to assist all relevant authorities in combatting infringing intellectual property goods in the Thai market.
