Georgia has advanced to 56th place in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025, moving up one position from last year among 139 economies. The GII highlights innovation capacity and performance through both inputs (investments in research, infrastructure, and institutions) and outputs (knowledge, technology, and creative results).

This year’s results reflect Georgia’s progress in strengthening its institutional framework, improving market sophistication, and increasing knowledge and technology outputs. Importantly, these advancements signal a stronger foundation for intellectual property creation, protection, and commercialization — critical drivers of sustainable innovation. Georgia also ranks 9th among 36 upper middle-income economies, further underlining its role as a growing hub for innovation in the region
