ASEAN AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA STRENGTHEN IP COOPERATION

On September 1, 2025, the 8th ASEAN–Republic of Korea (ROK) Heads of Intellectual Property Offices’ Meeting was held in Seoul. A joint statement confirmed plans to intensify cooperation in intellectual property, focusing on enforcement, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and measures to promote innovation and technology transfer.
The closer alignment between ASEAN and the ROK is expected to encourage greater consistency in IP systems across Southeast Asia while creating opportunities for cross-border business and collaboration. For rights holders, the outcome signals a more coordinated regional framework for protecting and leveraging IP assets.
