WIPO’S FIRST LL.M. IN IP AND BUSINESS LAW IN CENTRAL ASIA REGION

WIPO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU), has launched the first Joint Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property and Business Law in the Central Asian region.
The agreement, signed on May 15, 2024, by WIPO Director General Daren Tang, Justice Minister Azamat Yeskaraev, Science and Higher Education Minister Sayasat Nurbek, and MNU Chairman Talgat Narikbayev, marks a significant step in advancing IP education in Kazakhstan.
The 12-month program at MNU in Astana, Kazakhstan, will focus on trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications, patent law and policy, IP asset management, licensing IP, and innovation commercialization. The Kazakh government will offer at least 10 scholarships annually to Kazakh nationals.
This marks a significant step in advancing IP education in Kazakhstan, positioning the country as a regional leader in intellectual property. It reflects Kazakhstan's commitment to fostering innovation and strategic IP management in its growing economy.
