WIPO and Kazakhstan Deepen IP Cooperation to Drive Innovation

On May 28–29, 2025, WIPO Director General Daren Tang officially visited Astana, highlighting Kazakhstan’s rising influence as a center for innovation, creativity, and international cooperation in intellectual property. The visit coincided with the Astana International Forum, where Daren Tang engaged in high-level discussions and observed the country’s forward-looking Vision 2050 agenda focused on digital transformation, smart-city development, and entrepreneurship.
During his meetings with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and other senior officials, Daren Tang reaffirmed WIPO’s commitment to supporting startups and entrepreneurs in leveraging intellectual property for business growth and competitiveness in Kazakhstan. He also explored future cooperation in developing Kazakhstan’s National Innovation Strategy with a strong IP component.
The visit underscored WIPO’s broader collaboration with Kazakhstan through initiatives such as IP Clinics for Women Entrepreneurs, educational programs like the LLM and Summer School, and the establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centers. Daren Tang also participated in a panel on intellectual property in the era of AI and met with key international stakeholders to strengthen regional and global cooperation.
