On September 16th, 2024, S&O CAMBODIA participated in the launch of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia's (GDCE) Intellectual Property Rights Recordation System (IPRRS) during the system’s initial test phase.

The event at the Customs National School in Phnom Penh was attended by Mr. Se Sokhorn, Deputy Director General of GDCE, representing His Excellency Dr. Kun Nhem, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Director General of GDCE. Representatives from the Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), trademark agents, and private sector participants were also present.

This system represents a significant advancement in protecting and managing intellectual property in Cambodia. We are honored to have been involved in its initial phase and contributed to this important step forward.

The IPRRS is designed to help brand owners and businesses register their intellectual property rights. It allows for timely enforcement by customs officials, ensuring accurate information and sufficient supporting documentation for handling IP-related matters.

Aligned with Cambodia's National Intellectual Property Policy 2023-2028, Intellectual Property Work Orientation 2024, and the Customs Reform and Modernization Strategy 2024-2028, the IPRRS marks a major achievement for Cambodia's customs enforcement framework.

Furthermore, brand owners can now request the suspension of customs clearance procedures for export-import goods suspected of infringing on intellectual property.
