Kazakhstan’s Intellectual Property Law: Key Discussions at Qazpatent

On February 4, 2025, the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, Judicial System, and Law Enforcement Agencies of the Senate of Kazakhstan held a meeting at Qazpatent, Kazakhstan IP Office, to address "Current Issues in Intellectual Property Law."

Minister of Justice Yerlan Sarsembayev and Committee Chairman Nurlan Beknazarov opened the event, highlighting the critical role of robust intellectual property (IP) laws in fostering innovation and protecting rights. Vice Minister of Justice Botagoz Zhakselekova and Qazpatent Director Sabit Akhmetov then delivered presentations on the current state of IP legislation and proposed enhancements.

Key discussions focused on IP protection in the digital age, improving legal literacy, and strengthening the patent and copyright systems. Deputy Zhanna Assanova concluded the session by emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue around IP issues.

Participants also had the opportunity to explore an exhibition showcasing significant patents, trademarks, and innovative domestic developments that contribute to Kazakhstan's economic and technological growth.
