On April 30 of this year, an online event on the topic “IT Law Forum” was held. The organizers of this event were Suleiman Demirel University and the Scientific Center “IT&LAW”. As the organizers themselves pointed out, this event was aimed at strengthening the concept of IT law in Central Asia and promoting its development. The Forum also helps to improve the skills of novice specialists in these areas and this has become a unique experience for young professionals and students.

The forum was aimed at students of law and engineering specialties, practicing lawyers, undergraduates, and anyone interested in the field of information security and intellectual property.

The speakers at the event were such specialists as Murat Berikbolat (head of the Smart Bridge project), Bolatbek Ospanov (founder of the Smart Satu startup), as well as the Kazakh patent attorney of “S&O” company - Aizhan IMANSAYEVA.

The meeting was held on the WEBEX online platform. Each speaker was given 30 minutes to read a lecture, an additional 15 minutes were allocated for a question-and-answer session. The speakers talked about the peculiarities of business in Kazakhstan, the success stories of IT companies, the Kazakh IT market, the legal support of IT companies located in the CIS. In addition, the issue of personal data was discussed from a broader point of view and about the overlap that can occur both inside and outside the legal domain of confidentiality. The discussion also focused on the current and future conditions of intellectual property and machine learning, taking into account confidentiality. The forum also briefly talked about the development of cybersecurity and about tools to protect against potential cyber threats.

Aizhan IMANSAYEVA spoke at the forum on the topic “Intellectual property in IT Law”. During her speech, the patent attorney highlighted such topics as “trademark registration”, “the concept of a patent for an invention, utility model, industrial design”, “features of intellectual property law in IT”. During the question-and-answer session, interesting questions were asked from the audience. One of the questions was: “will the protection of the invention be extended at the time of consideration of the application, before the grant of the patent”. The speaker answered all the questions correctly.

At the end of the event, a certificate was issued to all speakers. The forum itself was also recorded, thanks to which it will be possible to listen to the speakers' lectures after.
