On October 14-15, 2024, S&O IP organized an offline intellectual property rights (IPR) training session with the Customs Control Department for the city of Almaty, bringing together officials from all customs posts in the town.
As a key economic hub and transit point for goods in Central Asia, Almaty plays a crucial role in the movement of products within Kazakhstan and beyond, under the "ONE BELT ONE ROAD" initiative. However, the city has become a significant market for counterfeit goods, distributed at retail and wholesale levels throughout the country.
The training addressed these concerns by focusing on providing customs officials with comprehensive knowledge about brand characteristics, anti-counterfeiting measures, and practical experience in identifying genuine and counterfeit products. Hands-on exposure to real and fake samples enhanced their ability to detect counterfeits effectively.
This effort reflects Almaty’s increasing focus on enhancing brand protection and safeguarding intellectual property rights in the region.
