The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts China to remain a key driver of global economic growth in 2024, with Asian economies, including China, poised for over 4% growth. Intellectual property (IP) is vital for progress and environmental protection. At the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024, Daren TANG, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), highlighted China's expanding role in global IP governance.
Daren TANG noted Asia's emergence as a major IP hub, with 70% of global IP applications originating from the region. China leads in patents, trademarks, designs, and geographical indications, showcasing a mature IP ecosystem built over five decades.
WIPO's Global Innovation Index 2023 ranked China first worldwide, boasting 24 of the top 100 science and technology clusters. In the second WIPO Global Awards, Chinese firms clinched the top two spots, underscoring China's innovation.
China's IP progress stems from robust government policies and support for innovation-driven enterprises, which prioritize independent R&D. Emphasizing new high-quality production capacities, the Chinese government aims to spur IP creation and innovation-led growth.
