In recent years, China has emerged as a leader in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, with these vehicles becoming a vital part of China’s export trade. This industry's growth signifies China's increasing global economic influence and highlights a significant shift in the country's approach to intellectual property rights.

According to data released by the National Development and Reform Commission of China, 2023 exports of Chinese-made NEVs grew by 77.6%. Today, China's production and sales of NEVs account for over 60% of the total global market.

Beyond cross-industry collaboration, companies have accelerated their vertical integration within the NEV sector. One leading Chinese NEV company has established subsidiaries focusing on independently developing and producing key components. This approach strengthens control over the supply chain and enhances core technological capabilities.

In terms of global sales, the top ten Chinese NEV companies hold more than 100,000 effective patents worldwide, reflecting a rapidly growing emphasis on intellectual property as a strategic asset.

This remarkable patent surge and independent technological development marks a turning point in China's approach to intellectual property. It represents an economic shift and a strategic move towards creating and protecting home-grown innovations.
