As of August 9, 2025, key provisions of Uzbekistan’s new IP legislation have entered into force, streamlining registration procedures and advancing digitalisation. The law removes the requirement to provide proof of fee payment at filing, enables electronic applications through the Patent and Trademark Office’s platform, and introduces digital certificates with QR codes. Applicants also benefit from extended grant fee deadlines of up to six months with a surcharge, while plant variety registration requirements have been simplified.

Looking ahead, from November 10, 2025, enhanced enforcement provisions will take effect. The Ministry of Justice will gain broader powers to seize infringing goods and documents during inspections, and stricter administrative and criminal penalties will apply for repeat or serious violations. These include higher fines, confiscation of goods, and potential imprisonment.

Together, these reforms bring Uzbekistan’s IP system closer to international standards, offering stronger protection for rights holders and creating a more attractive environment for innovation and investment.
