Thailand’s National Committee on Intellectual Property Policy has approved a six-point reform strategy introduced by Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira to modernize the country’s IP system. The plan aims to drive innovation, support SMEs, and remove Thailand from the U.S. Special 301 Watch List.

Pichai Chunhavajira stressed that strong IP protection is vital for economic growth, foreign investment, and global competitiveness. Deputy Commerce Minister Chantawit Tantasith highlighted the role of SMEs in leveraging IP to unlock new markets and add product value.

The strategy focuses on six areas: commercializing research, boosting creative industries, developing financial tools for innovation, expanding IP use, supporting innovation-led enterprises, and strengthening data management. It is complemented by the 2026–2027 IP Development Plan, which introduces legal reforms, tougher enforcement, improved services, and wider awareness programs.
