Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), in partnership with the Royal Thai Police, the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), and customs authorities, has significantly ramped up its crackdown on counterfeit goods in the first eight months of 2025. The coordinated enforcement effort handled 863 cases and resulted in the seizure of approximately 2.97 million counterfeit items, with a total estimated value exceeding THB 1 billion.
Despite a 7.6% decline in the number of cases compared with the same period in 2024, the increase of 27% in the volume of seized items demonstrates a sharp focus on high-risk commodity streams and larger-scale warehouses. The major confiscations targeted luxury goods, automotive parts, cosmetics, food items, and other products posing both consumer-safety and brand-risk concerns.
To support these operations, the DIP has signed Memorandums of Understanding with 44 public and private organizations in a bid to strengthen e-commerce and online platform enforcement. Among other measures, IP owners and platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok are now required to adopt a “notice-and-takedown” mechanism to address infringing listings.
For brand-owners and right-holders in Thailand, these developments underline the importance of pre-emptive customs registration, active market surveillance, and readiness to engage with enforcement authorities both online and offline.
