On July 1, 2025, S&O IP Cambodia had the privilege of conducting an in-person brand protection training session in Siem Reap province for the Siem Reap Customs and Excise team.
The session was honored by the presence of Mr. Kang Leang, Chief of Siem Reap Customs and Excise, who represented His Excellency Dr. Kun Nhem, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia. Mr. Leang emphasized that the risk of counterfeit goods poses a significant threat not only to consumers but also to distributors, rights holders, manufacturers, and the national economy.
In recognition of this growing issue, the Customs Department has integrated intellectual property protection into the newly adopted National Intellectual Property Policy 2023–2028. Mr. Leang expressed hope that customs officers would gain valuable insights through the training to enhance their ability to identify genuine and counterfeit goods in their daily operations.
The interactive session provided customs officials with brand-specific guidance, practical authentication techniques, and case examples to strengthen border enforcement capabilities. The event underscored the importance of continued collaboration between enforcement authorities and international rights holders in combating counterfeit trade.
S&O IP Cambodia remains committed to supporting Cambodia’s enforcement authorities in their efforts to protect intellectual property rights and welcomes future opportunities to provide training for frontline officers.
