The International Summer School on Intellectual Property Law was recently held in Georgia, bringing together participants from across Europe under the joint organization of Sakpatenti and the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA). While designed as an academic program, the initiative reflects a broader trend of strengthening IP capacity in Georgia and aligning local practices with European and international standards.
Over the course of the program, sessions addressed copyright and related rights in the digital space, the regulation of works created with artificial intelligence, and the protection of trademarks, designs and geographical indications in the context of brand and product identity. Patent law was also discussed with a focus on its role in innovation and ecosystem development. The program included contributions from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as site visits to Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, highlighting practical enforcement measures.
The initiative illustrates Georgia’s ongoing efforts to build expertise, improve enforcement, and ensure that its IP system remains in step with global best practices. For businesses and rights holders, this continued development signals a more robust environment for intellectual property protection in the region.
