CNIPA AND UKIPO DISCUSS FUTURE COOPERATION AND SIGN 2026 WORK PLAN

On November 18, 2025, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met in Beijing with Adam Williams, Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). The discussion focused on recent IP policy developments in both jurisdictions, as well as shared priorities including artificial intelligence and patents, examination practices, and the role of IP in finance and innovation. The meeting concluded with the signing of the 2026 bilateral cooperation work plan.
Both offices highlighted the value of continued collaboration and exchange. CNIPA noted that cooperation between China and the UK has progressed through initiatives such as technical exchanges, joint symposia, and examiner programs, and expressed readiness to deepen engagement. The UKIPO shared updates on its ongoing digital transformation efforts and support for SMEs, reaffirming its interest in further strengthening cooperation.
