A delegation from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), led by Deputy Commissioner Lu Pengqi, participated in the 17th BRICS Heads of Intellectual Property Offices Meeting held in Brazil. The visit also included official meetings with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil and the National Institute of Industrial Property of Argentina.
The 2025 BRICS IP meeting was the first to convene following the group’s expansion, marking a new phase of multilateral collaboration on intellectual property issues. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among member offices and enhancing coordination on global IP policies. During the visit, CNIPA and INPI signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program, aimed at improving patent examination efficiency and supporting innovation between the two countries.
In Argentina, the delegation held talks with senior officials on the development of national IP systems, including topics such as AI-related patent examination, capacity building, and institutional cooperation. The mission also engaged with Chinese enterprises and representatives from the Argentine-China Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in fostering innovation and protecting IP rights across Latin America.
