Department of Special Investigation and S&O IP Make Successful Raids at 7 Locations

On 19 August, 2022, S&O IP Thailand, other Intellectual Property (IP) representatives, and Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) worked together to make successful raids at 7 major locations in Rong Kleu Market, Nakhon Nayok Province, Thailand.

S&O IP Thailand learned from an anonymous investigator, someone who had regularly monitored counterfeit storage facilities, about the locations of suspected facilities in the Rong Kleu Market. The raids resulted in the seizure of 360,000 multi-brand counterfeits, with well-known brands including, , Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Longchamp, and Coach. The approximate market value of the seized goods was 120 million Thai Baht (USD 3,269,000), with damages estimated to be more than 1,000 million Thai Baht (USD 27,268,020). This has been reported as the DSI’s largest seizure of counterfeit items this year.

DSI Director General, Pol. Lt. Col. Phayao Thongsen, accompanied by Polson Thadsang, Director of the intellectual property litigation division, jointly announced the results of the raid operation at a Press Conference on 30 August. Pol. Lt. Col. Phayao commented that the government has highlighted the importance of combating counterfeit goods., with a goal of removing Thailand from the US Trade Representative watch list. Due to the large volume of counterfeits seized in the raids, DSI invited all IP representatives involved, including S&O IP Thailand representatives, to attend the press conference, along with representatives from the United States Department of Homeland Security. S&O IP Thailand participants expressed gratitude to the DSI and IP representatives involved in the massive raids for their hard work, collaboration, and dedication to this important action.
