Malaysia and ASEAN Member States co-hosted an exhibition at the 65th World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

The exhibition, themed "Creative and Sustainable ASEAN," was held from July 9 to 17, 2024, and aimed to promote intellectual property and creative industries in ASEAN Member States. Approximately 1,000 participants of the WIPO General Assembly attended the event.

Malaysia's participation was spearheaded by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MyIPO) and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN in Geneva. The exhibition featured a variety of products, including those from the creative industries, traditional artistic and cultural heritage, and items recognized as Geographical Indications (GIs).

Since joining WIPO in 1989, Malaysia has closely collaborated with the organization, working on developing and advancing the national IP ecosystem through capacity-building programs and technical assistance.

Aligned with Malaysia's commitment to developing its IP potential for national growth, the Permanent Mission of Malaysia in Geneva plays a crucial role. Intellectual property enhances competitiveness, innovation, and expertise, driving economic and social development. This is particularly important as Malaysia strives to achieve developed country status by 2030, in line with its Sustainable Development Goals.
