China-Eurasian Conference on IP and Technology

On September 14, 2024, the China-Eurasian Conference on Intellectual Property and Technologies took place in Beijing, gathering key stakeholders from both regions' intellectual property (IP) sectors. The opening ceremony featured remarks from Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), highlighting the significance of the conference. His message was conveyed by Deputy Commissioner Lu Pengqi, who emphasized the importance of the collaboration between CNIPA and the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO).

Shen Changyu underscored the value of the EAPO and the IP authorities of its member states as essential partners for the CNIPA. He noted the extensive and practical cooperation developed in the IP field, particularly through the Belt and Road Initiative. He also expressed China’s eagerness to strengthen its collaboration with Eurasian partners, sharing developmental opportunities to foster mutual benefits and achieve joint advancements to benefit innovators and IP users from both sides.

EAPO President Grigory Ivliev provided an overview of the latest developments in the Eurasian IP system during the conference. He expressed a willingness to continue enhancing IP dialogue with China, deepen multilateral and bilateral cooperation, and promote technological innovation and economic and trade exchanges between the two regions.

The conference attracted representatives from IP authorities and industries in China and various Eurasian countries, fostering a platform for dialogue and collaboration in intellectual property. This event underscores the growing importance of international cooperation in IP, particularly as both regions seek to advance their innovation agendas.
